Number of Persons on the Live Register, in receipt of the PUP and supported by the TWSS or EWSS [LRM20]

The number of persons on the Live Register and the number in receipt of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) are counts based on data received from the Department of Social Protection (DSP). The number of persons supported by the Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme (TWSS) or Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme (EWSS) is an estimate based on CSO analysis of data received from the Revenue Commissioners of the number of persons being supported by those income support schemes. Both the Estimated Number of Persons on the LR or benefitting from PUP, TWSS or EWSS and the Estimated Number of Persons benefitting from PUP, TWSS or EWSS are totals which exclude duplicates which can occur, for example, when a person transitions from PUP to a Wage Subsidy Scheme upon re-entering employment.
The EWSS ended on 31 May 2022. The EWSS estimates were subject to revision on an ongoing basis as the CSO received more up to date data relating to the scheme. A review of the data following the end of the scheme has resulted in further revisions being applied across the series.
