- 'Data prior to 1984' covers the value of all banknotes in circulation, by denomination, excluding £20, £50, £100 and £1000 banknotes (these denomination banknotes had ceased to be issued in the early 1900s and constituted less than 0.5 per cent of outstanding banknotes in circulation, by value, by 1945). Coins are excluded. Australia converted from pounds to dollars on 14 February 1966, with 1 pound becoming 2 dollars.
