At the Treasury, and more specifically at the SPMAE, DBnomics is primarily used for macroeconomic diagnostics and forecasting, both for France and other advanced economies. The series aggregated by this service feed models for forecasting inflation in major Eurozone economies as well as for analyzing competitiveness. DBnomics data also serve as the basis for comparing forecasts from international organizations.

The main advantage of DBnomics, compared to relying on direct links to original sources or multiple aggregators, is that it standardizes the data retrieval process. This allows for code reuse, improves understandability across different analysts, and reduces the number of dependencies.

The web interface makes it possible, at least occasionally, to detect signals in series that have undergone light processing, such as aggregation or seasonal adjustment. In some cases, for instance with electricity production and consumption data, DBnomics also performs useful preprocessing (e.g., concatenating series).

Ultimately, it is the library that allows DBnomics series to be imported directly into an R environment that is by far the most valuable feature of the project and, indirectly, all the infrastructure that ensures it works smoothly.
